ST. PAUL, Minn. — Kristoffer Lund’s story must begin with seals, porpoises and sea otters.
Lund, 21, is the newest member of the U.S. men’s national soccer team after making his debut Saturday in a friendly against Uzbekistan in St. Louis. He is from a Danish harbor village, the eldest of three children.
His father, a Dane named Klaus, sells construction equipment. His mother, Kirstin, is from Keystone in the Colorado Rockies, graduated from UC Santa Cruz and, some 25 years ago, moved to Denmark to continue work as a marine biologist.
She has researched sea life and worked with animals in Kerteminde, which sits on the eastern edge of Funen, the country’s third-largest island.
